On Colonialism

While the British ruled India, it had periodic famines that were ostensibly caused by the weather.  Since India has become independent, it has not had such a famine.

While the British ruled India, they refused to intervene during the famines based on Ayn Rand-like arguments about the “autonomy” and “independence” of the Indians.  After India became independent, they were better able to respond to disasters by spreading around food and appealing for international aid.
