Reading the National Council of Welfare Poverty Profile
Over the last 20 years, incomes for poor Canadians increased by 4%. Incomes for rich Canadians increased by 14%. In other words, average income after tax for the poorest 20 percent of the population went from $11,500 to $12,000 between 1980 and 2003. Average income for the richest 20 percent went from $92,500 to $105,800.
